About cantilever gates

A cantilever gate is a sliding gate that hangs from roller carriages behind the opening, so nothing runs across the ground in the entrance. It is driven by a rack-and-pinion sliding operator.

Cantilever gates suit industrial yards, commercial depots, building sites and any entrance with uneven, soft or gravel ground, or where snow and debris would block a ground track.

Local considerations in Gorebridge, Midlothian

In Scotland, powered gates and barriers are machinery: they must be installed and maintained so they are safe in use (BS EN 12453 force limits, photocells and safety edges) under health and safety law, and any gate onto a road must not open over the highway.

At roughly 187 m above sea level, Gorebridge sees more wind, driving rain and frost than lowland areas, so we pay attention to weather sealing, cable entries and, for vents, rain and wind sensors.

Around Gorebridge we often work on smaller blocks, rural businesses, farms and private homes, where power supply and cable runs can be longer, so we check these at survey.

We check the counterbalance length, carriage foundations, post alignment and the operator size. Our shop price shown is for a sliding operator, which drives cantilever gates; the gate and carriages are quoted after survey.

Maintenance of cantilever gates in Gorebridge

Planned maintenance keeps cantilever gates safe and reliable and gives you records for insurers and inspections. We service CAME and all other makes: we check fixings, wear, power and battery backup, controls and safety devices, adjust and lubricate where needed, test operation end to end and leave a written report with any recommended actions.
