What are fixed & removable bollards?
Fixed bollards are permanent posts set in concrete; removable or telescopic bollards can be unlocked and lifted out or dropped into the ground to open the way.
Where they are used
They protect buildings, shopfronts, cycle paths, loading bays, private parking spaces and pedestrian areas.
Pros
- Low cost and low maintenance
- Simple to use
- Can be crash-rated
Cons
- Manual operation for removable types
- Locks and sockets can seize
- No automatic control
Standards and regulations
Crash-rated versions are tested to PAS 68 or IWA 14-1. Otherwise we follow the site's risk assessment and highway rules where they apply.
Installation considerations
We check what is under the ground, set the spacing so vehicles cannot pass, and specify sockets and locks. Bollards are quoted after survey; no bollard product is in the shop yet.
Every installation starts with a free survey. We confirm the specification, give you a written quote, install and commission the system, and hand over with test records and instructions.
Maintenance of fixed & removable bollards
Planned maintenance keeps fixed & removable bollards safe and reliable and gives you records for insurers and inspections. We service CAME and all other makes: we check fixings, wear, power and battery backup, controls and safety devices, adjust and lubricate where needed, test operation end to end and leave a written report with any recommended actions.
Repairs
If your fixed & removable bollards has stopped working, is noisy, is opening or closing on its own or is showing a fault, we fault-find on site and repair it, often on the first visit using parts from our shop. We repair systems we did not install and work on all common makes.
Servicing
Servicing intervals depend on use and risk; most sites have a service at least once a year, busy or safety-critical systems more often. We can set up a service contract with reminders so it is never missed. Installation, maintenance, repair and service prices are POA after a free survey and quote.
