About rising arm barriers
A rising arm barrier (boom barrier) is a cabinet with a motor that raises and lowers a horizontal arm across a lane. It controls traffic rather than stopping a determined vehicle.
They are used at car parks, business parks, hospitals, schools, residential developments, depots and toll or ticket lanes.
Local considerations in Colne, Lancashire
In England, powered gates and barriers are machinery: they must be installed and maintained so they are safe in use (BS EN 12453 force limits, photocells and safety edges) under health and safety law, and any gate onto a road must not open over the highway.
At roughly 191 m above sea level, Colne sees more wind, driving rain and frost than lowland areas, so we pay attention to weather sealing, cable entries and, for vents, rain and wind sensors.
Work in Colne is a mix of residential blocks, schools, offices, industrial units and homes, and we tailor the specification to how busy the site is.
We check lane width (arm length), traffic volume, the base for the cabinet, cable ducts for loops and power, and whether an arm skirt or support is needed.

Planned maintenance keeps rising arm barriers safe and reliable and gives you records for insurers and inspections. We service CAME and all other makes: we check fixings, wear, power and battery backup, controls and safety devices, adjust and lubricate where needed, test operation end to end and leave a written report with any recommended actions.
