About safety edges & photocells
Safety edges are pressure-sensitive strips that stop and reverse a gate on contact; photocells are infra-red beams that stop a gate if something is in the way.
Fitted to all automatic gates, barriers and doors.
Local considerations in Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh
In Scotland, powered gates and barriers are machinery: they must be installed and maintained so they are safe in use (BS EN 12453 force limits, photocells and safety edges) under health and safety law, and any gate onto a road must not open over the highway.
In a built-up area like Edinburgh, many jobs are in blocks of flats, mixed-use buildings and car parks, so access, parking for our vans and out-of-hours working are planned at survey.
We assess every crush, shear and trapping point and fit edges and photocells to suit, then force-test.
Maintenance of safety edges & photocells in Edinburgh
Planned maintenance keeps safety edges & photocells safe and reliable and gives you records for insurers and inspections. We service CAME and all other makes: we check fixings, wear, power and battery backup, controls and safety devices, adjust and lubricate where needed, test operation end to end and leave a written report with any recommended actions.
Repairs in Edinburgh

Servicing in Edinburgh
