About safety edges & photocells
Safety edges are pressure-sensitive strips that stop and reverse a gate on contact; photocells are infra-red beams that stop a gate if something is in the way.
Fitted to all automatic gates, barriers and doors.
Local considerations in Smethwick, Sandwell
In England, powered gates and barriers are machinery: they must be installed and maintained so they are safe in use (BS EN 12453 force limits, photocells and safety edges) under health and safety law, and any gate onto a road must not open over the highway.
At roughly 157 m above sea level, Smethwick sees more wind, driving rain and frost than lowland areas, so we pay attention to weather sealing, cable entries and, for vents, rain and wind sensors.
Work in Smethwick is a mix of residential blocks, schools, offices, industrial units and homes, and we tailor the specification to how busy the site is.
We assess every crush, shear and trapping point and fit edges and photocells to suit, then force-test.

Planned maintenance keeps safety edges & photocells safe and reliable and gives you records for insurers and inspections. We service CAME and all other makes: we check fixings, wear, power and battery backup, controls and safety devices, adjust and lubricate where needed, test operation end to end and leave a written report with any recommended actions.
